About me
Omar Delgado, an esteemed alumnus of Florida International University with a Bachelor’s in History and Nova Southeastern University with a Master’s in Teaching and Learning with a specialization in Technology, brings over two decades of experience as a professional cinematographer. With a deep-seated passion for education and media, Omar has dedicated 22 years to teaching at Christopher Columbus High School. He is the advisor of CCNN Live, the school’s distinguished Journalism Program, leading it to 92 regional and 15 national Student Production Awards (Emmys) from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) in Student Television Production, and five Crazy 8 National championships at the Student Television Network (STN). Omar is also the Director of Educational Technology and Learning Development at Christopher Columbus High School, leading the Ctech team, a group of technology educators dedicated to providing ongoing professional development to the faculty. His commitment to educational innovation is further exemplified by his certification in Chat GPT through Career Learning and his work with FACTS Management, where he delivers professional development to schools across the country. An accredited Apple Learning Coach, Omar plays an active role in the media education community. He has been a board member for various Florida Scholastic Press Association (FSPA) conventions and is a frequent judge for state journalism organizations. Under his mentorship, CCNN Live’s daily broadcast has earned the Broadcast Pacemaker Award from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) five times. Recognized for his dedication to teaching and media education, Omar was named Columbus’ Teacher of the Year in 2013, the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) Teacher of the Year in 2015, and the FSPA Teacher of the Year in 2021. Most recently, in 2022, he received the Teacher of the Year award from the Student Television Network (STN), further cementing his legacy in educational media.
